A Keshena native missing since May 1993 has been identified as the John. Doe found dead near the Wisconsin-Illinois border, the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Pleasant Prairie Police Department announced jointly Aug. 27. The man was identified as Ronald Louis Dodge, born on Dec. 27, 1952, in Keshena, on the Menominee Indian Reservation.

This week I downloaded “Going Rogue – Rise and Shine Twenty-nine” by Janet Evanovich. Reluctant bounty hunter Stephanie Plum’s life has been oddly quiet. Most of the “failure to appear” cases have been easy to find and bring in. She doesn’t make much money but can pay her bills.

The village of Wittenberg could be starting its own dog park, if enough people donate to the project. More than 500 letters were sent out to residents seeking donations, according to Theresa Gatz, one of the people spearheading the project and a Wittenberg Village Board member.

Shortly before Christmas 1864, my great-great-aunt Margarethe Walter said a tearful goodbye to her husband, Johann, certain she would never see him again. A Sheboygan County German immigrant farmer, Johann was forced to leave her and their baby daughter to join the Union Army during the Civil War. Margarethe’s premonition was spot on, but in a way she could not have imagined. Johann’s infantry unit was charged with guarding supply trains.

Reiterating that the sheriff’s department would rather offer a 50-cent per hour pay differential for second shift and weekend working dispatchers and correctional officers, Supervisor Tess Serrano urged the Shawano County Executive Committee to make that part of the proposed 2025 budget. The committee denied the request at its Aug. 21 meeting.
