The Wittenberg Village Board signed off Nov. 4 on a three-year contract with Town Web that includes upgrading its website. The village has been with Town Web for 12 years already, but this is the first time the company has asked for a signed contract, according to Village Clerk Traci Matsche. Under the contract, the village will pay $2,120 for the first year, which includes $1,200 for the website upgrade.

St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel has announced its Christmas service schedule. St. Paul will hold Christmas Eve services at 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Christmas Day service will take place at 9 a.m. The school will also hold several Christmas programs. Preschool and kindergarten students will perform at 10:15 a.m. Dec. 8. First through fourth grades will perform at 7 p.m. Dec.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alfred Henry Keith on Oct. 28, 2024, at the age of 89. Alfred was born on March 21, 1935, in Lena to Henry and Josephine Keith. Alfred attended Oconto Falls High School and St. Norbert College in preparation for his vast and ambitious career.

Gillett’s Bradyn Wendorff led all area runners with a seventh-place finish in the Division 3 boys race at the state cross country tournament Nov. 2 in Wisconsin Rapids. Wendorff completed the event in 16:26.7. There were 151 runners in the D3 race with the best time of 15:52.7. The Bonduel boys team placed 14th among 16 teams. Race Anvelink led the Bears with a 30th-place finish in 17:50.3.

Oct. 31 Shawano 3, Mosinee 1 Shawano traveled to Mosinee for the first round of sectional action and returned home one game away from the state tournament. Shawano won 3-1 and will play Altoona at Merrill on Nov. 2 for the sectional title and the right to play at the Resch Center in Green Bay. All games against Mosinee were close battles. Shawano won the first game 25-18, then lost the second one 25-22.

This week I read M.G. Herron’s “Culture Shock.” It is the first in the Gunn Files science fiction series featuring bounty hunter Anderson Gunn. It is said that if it is weird, you can probably find it in Austin, Texas, and Anderson couldn’t agree more. The last year has been rough.
