Lena to play for state championship
Nov. 8 Bonduel 15, Coleman 13 Bonduel scored just enough and its defense held when it needed to as the Bears defeated Coleman 15-13 in WIAA playoff action. The Bears opened the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown pass from Cade Johnson to Colin Fischer, who also kicked the extra point. Coleman tied the game in the second quarter, but Bonduel came right back with a 1-yard touchdown run by Ryan Westrich.
Oconto Falls superintendent to retire
Dean Hess, who has been superintendent of the Oconto Falls School District for nearly a decade, plans to retire at the end of the school year. The school board was scheduled to consider Hess’ retirement, according to the agenda for the board’s Nov.
Shawano-Menominee Circuit Court
• Shane J. DeMoss, 44, Shawano, pleaded no contest Jan. 30 to possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of THC. On Nov. 5, Judge William Kussel Jr. withheld sentencing and placed him on probation for two years with conditions. • Joseph Tengbeh, 32, previously of Phoenix, Arizona, pleaded no contest Nov. 6 to misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing an officer.

Daryl ‘D.J.’ Schroeder
Daryl James “D.J.” Schroeder, 66, Morgan, died Monday Nov. 4, 2024, at home of natural causes. He was born Nov. 25, 1957, to Bently and Eleanor (Peters) Schroeder. Daryl grew up on the family farm in Sampson where he attended a one-room schoolhouse in the Town of Morgan for three years and then continued at Oconto Falls public schools graduating in 1976. After high school, he spent a year in New Zealand working on a sheep farm.

Ten Aspirus Health hospitals have been recognized as top performers in the Wisconsin Hospital Association’s (WHA) CheckPoint program. Aspirus hospitals recognized as top performers include Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo. These hospitals earned recognition for their efforts in patient safety, quality improvement and delivering high standards of care.

Helen Augusta (Malischke) “Mama Lu” Lueck, 84, of the Town of Wescott, passed away on Nov. 7, 2024, in Appleton. Helen was born on June 20, 1940, the oldest of four children of Carl and Kathryn (Marx) Malischke. She grew up in the Washington Highlands neighborhood of Wauwatosa.
