The Wittenberg Village Board signed off Nov. 4 on a three-year contract with Town Web that includes upgrading its website.
The village has been with Town Web for 12 years already, but this is the first time the company has asked for a signed contract, according to Village Clerk Traci Matsche. Under the contract, the village will pay $2,120 for the first year, which includes $1,200 for the website upgrade. For the remaining two years, the village will only have to pay $920 annually — $600 for hosting and maintenance, $300 for unlimited tech support and training, and the remaining $20 for the domain management.
According to Town Web’s proposal, the tech support includes any support for glitches at no additional cost, even posting and editing on their behalf. The website would also be able to facilitate payments online and to submit licensing forms and enable online renting.
“In the last 12 years, we’ve only upgraded once,” Matsche said.
One thing the board took out of the contract, at Matsche’s suggestion, was what was described as a white-glove service for an additional $300 per year, which would have been an additional customer support plan. Matsche questioned why that was part of the deal when the village is already getting around-the-clock support.
“I’ve already had this, so why would I need this white-glove service?” Matsche said. “They said it was needed for that Hey311cq app, and I don’t want that anyway.”
The Hey311 app, according to www.heygov.com, would allow residents to receive updates, notifications and feedback via their phones.
Matsche added that she spoke with Maria Donat, clerk for the Town of Wittenberg, and learned the town had also declined the white-glove service. The town upgraded its website a year ago, according to Matsche.
Matsche noted the timing for the proposal was good, because Town Web pointed out that in another year, its clients would all have to upgrade to the new system.
“We might as well do it,” Matsche said, noting that the company is getting bigger, which indicates it needs to make things more official with Wittenberg and other clients it serves.
The upgrade will take place in early 2025, according to Matsche.
