At Hilrose Dairy Farm in Sherwood back in the 1950s, the Christmas holidays began in earnest the day after Thanksgiving. I loved that time of year. The harvest was over; life took on a slower pace. The coal and wood room that would keep the furnace going was filled to the brim. Food to carry us through winter was preserved and stored. The house was clean from top to bottom.

A 34-year-old Bonduel man had to be rescued from the Wolf River after he was initially scared off from an alleged attempted burglary at a nearby home on Thanksgiving Day. Justin M. Wilber faces one count of burglary and two counts of bail jumping after being pulled from the river by local fire and EMS personnel. The Oconto County Health and Human Services Board has approved a contract with Marinette Elderly Services to run home-delivered and on-site meal services for Oconto County in 2025. The contract, which goes to the Marinette nonprofit’s board, amounts to $228,335.

After defiantly refusing to come to the courtroom for his own trial the day before, an Oconto man charged with multiple child sexual assaults pleaded guilty Dec. 5 to a single attack. David SanRoman, 49, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11 for second-degree sexual assault of a child before Oconto County Circuit Judge Michael Judge.

The Gillett City Council on Dec. 5 approved Mayor Jon Blaskowski’s appointment of Matthew Young to a vacant slot on the council, representing the 2nd Aldermanic District. Sandra Hubbard recently said she is unable to continue and resigned from the council, Blaskowski said.
