Asbestos abatement, demolition on the horizon

Shawano County supervisors adopted a resolution March 26 to approve additional uses of residential rental property funds. The original 2013 resolution approved the carryover of the funds for future property acquisition, and ongoing maintenance and repairs at rental properties owned by Shawano County and maintained by the building maintenance department. Carol M. Pytleski
Carol M. Pytleski, 99, passed away peacefully Friday, March 28, 2025. Carol was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Lena to the late Alton and Mayme (Gehrke) Goodell. On June 12, 1948, Carol married William (Bill) Pytleski. They farmed in the Town of Spruce until retirement in 1979. Carol graduated from Lena High School with the class of 1944.

Mielke Arts Center privatization plans questioned
Not everyone is on board with a proposal to privatize Mielke Arts Center and Mielke Park. Shawano County Board Chairman Tom Kautza reported at the March 26 board meeting that at least two Mielke family members have come forward in opposition to the plan. Conservation poster contest winners honored
The 2025 Shawano County Land Conservation Poster Contest drew 176 entries from eight schools, with the 15 winners recognized at the March 26 meeting of the Shawano County Board. “Home is Where the Habitat Is” was the theme.
