Wisconsin had 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending April 20, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. While days suitable increased, rainy and wet conditions across much of the state limited fieldwork. Field activities included spreading fertilizer and manure, as well as tillage as conditions allowed. Topsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 14% short, 65% adequate and 19% surplus.

April 21 Seymour 5, Shawano 1 Shawano’s softball team suffered its first Bay Conference defeat of the season, a 5-1 loss to Seymour. The game was moved from Seymour to Shawano due to weather and field conditions. The Hawks dropped to 4-1 in league play and 6-4 overall.

Gillett Elementary School teacher Tammy Dantoin has been selected as a 2025 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellow. The fellowship program recognizes and supports teaching excellence and innovation in Wisconsin, supporting teachers in the pursuit of their unrealized goals for their classrooms or professional development. Alderman Kevin Barkow will serve a second year as president of the Shawano Common Council during the council’s April 15 reorganizational meeting. No one else was nominated, so Barkow received unanimous approval.

Three therapists from Aspirus Langlade Hospital have successfully achieved certification as oncology rehabilitation specialists from the Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute (PORI). With staff holding these certifications, Aspirus Langlade Hospital now meets the standards to classify as an Oncology Rehabilitation Center of Excellence. Speech therapist Annika Fox earned her PORI certification in head and neck cancer.
