Wisconsin had 3.9 days suitable for fieldwork statewide for the week ending April 20, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
While days suitable increased, rainy and wet conditions across much of the state limited fieldwork. Field activities included spreading fertilizer and manure, as well as tillage as conditions allowed.
Topsoil moisture condition rated 2% very short, 14% short, 65% adequate and 19% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated 4% very short, 20% short, 59% adequate and 17% surplus.
Corn planting was 1% complete, while 2% of soybeans have been planted.
Oat planting was 17% complete, one day behind both last year and the 5-year average.
Potato planting has reached 14%, five days behind last year but even with the average.
Spring tillage was 15% complete, four days behind last year and two days behind the average.
Pasture and range condition was rated 27% good to excellent, up three percentage points from last week.
Winter wheat condition was rated 52% good to excellent, up six percentage points from last week.
