Two Shawano events in April will promote awareness of sexual assault. The third Dance Back the Night will be held April 11, and Take Back the Night will be held April 24.
Both events highlight services provided to sexual assault victims in Shawano and Menominee counties, as well as the Stockbridge-Munsee tribe. Last year, Safe Haven Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Support Center met individually with 120 sexual assault clients.
Doors will open for Dance Back the Night at 6 p.m. April 11 at The Main Event, 206 Lemke St., in Cecil. The $10 admission, for everyone over age 5, includes dance performances and hors d’oeuvres.
Dance performances are planned from 7-9:30 p.m. The DJ service of Singin’ Entertainment will keep the evening rolling with music and various types of dance, including belly dancing and performances by dancers from Shuffles and Ignite dance studios. The Menominee drum group Young Chiefs will perform along with their singers and dancers.
Tickets can be purchased at Safe Haven, 380 Lakeland Road, Shawano, and CoVantage Credit Union, or at the door on the evening of the event.
Dance Back the Night has received financial support from Shawano Medical Center, a ThedaCare hospital.
Take Back the Night will start at 5:30 p.m. April 24 in the commons of Shawano Community High School, 220 County Road B, Shawano. The April date was chosen to bring attention to Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month.
The public is invited to learn about, help and support efforts to curb sexual assault and child abuse, and to help the victims. There will also be an opportunity to decorate denim in support of sexual assault awareness.
