Jessie E. Neuman, 98, of Tigerton, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at her daughter’s home under the loving care of family and nurses with Ministry Hospice.
The former Jessie Ella Kading was born July 24, 1915, in Whitcomb, the daughter of Christ and Olga (Schroeder) Kading. She grew up in Whitcomb and attended school there until the eighth grade. Then she went to St. John’s Lutheran School, Tigerton, and was confirmed in 1929. Jessie attended Tigerton High School and graduated in 1933. After school, she moved to Evanston, Illinois, where she worked for seven years. Jessie was united in marriage on Oct. 21, 1941, to Elmer R. Neuman at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1997. She was a longtime member of St. John’s and always enjoyed attending worship, teaching Sunday school in her early years, and serving with both the Women’s Guild and the Women’s Missionary League. Jessie also volunteered for some years as a 4-H leader.
Survivors include four children, Yolanda (Robert) Benbrooks, of Tigerton, Luanne (Terrence) Laatsch, of Marion, Melanie (Robert) Kostuch, of Tigerton, and Robert (Jody) Neuman, of Tigerton; one daughter-in-law, Lynn Neuman, of Tigerton; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren, and 16 great-stepgrandchildren. Jessie is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer, a son, Paul; an infant daughter, Mary; a great-granddaughter, Tessa Marie Neuman; and a great-grandson, Cody Laatsch. Jessie was also preceded in death by two sisters, Josie Bloecher and Margaret Harvey, and three brothers, infant Lorenz, Oscar and Lorenz Kading.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. The Rev. Clifford Kessen will officiate, and burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Friends may call on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service, all at the church.

We would like to thank WRVM radio station for the wonderful programs that helped Mom for so many years when she no longer had her eyesight for reading or watching television. We would also especially like to thank all the friends and family who came to visit or called during her brief illness.
