Weather permitting, the official opening of the Oconto Falls High School softball complex is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. Thursday, prior to the game between Oconto Falls and Hortonville.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will recognize the community and business partners that contributed to the fields’ development.
The partners include Panther Pride, an organization that initiated a grass-roots effort to raise funds to develop outdoor facilities following two failed school referendums. While the vision remains for improvements to the school’s baseball, football and track complex, the two-diamond softball complex is the first to be developed. Aside from its own fundraising efforts, Panther Pride has received contributions from the school district and other sources.
Community Memorial Hospital secured naming rights to the field and contributed $75,000, and Saputo Cheese donated $25,000.
7UP contributed $8,500 and committed to providing $40,000 over 10 years. Oconto Electric Cooperative presented a $10,000 check at the Panther Pride fundraising banquet in November.
The Oconto Falls Booster Club made an initial $15,000 contribution and will continue to raise funds for the school’s athletic facilities.
Oconto Falls High School is located at 210 N. Farm Road in Oconto Falls.
