All of the public comments are in, and environmental documentation is underway as the city of Shawano and Wisconsin Department of Transportation prepare for the 2028 reconstruction of Main Street from Zingler Avenue north to the bridge over the Shawano Lake Outlet Channel.
According to Andrew Casper, project manager, the work will include pavement replacement, pedestrian curb ramps, traffic signals and spot curb repairs.
More specifically, the proposed improvements include:
• Removing and replacing asphalt pavement within the travel lanes of Main Street and adjoining intersections.
• Milling and resurfacing the existing parking and shoulder lanes.
• Updating traffic signals at Lieg Avenue.
• Replacing traffic signals at Division Street and Green Bay Street.
• Reconstructing pedestrian curb ramps that do not meet ADA compliance.
• Spot curb and gutter repairs.
Project staff are in the process of evaluating the impacts to any historical and archaeological property sites. The environmental documents will be drafted in the next few months.
By July, 60% of the plans and a traffic management plan are expected to be completed. A design study report should be ready by August.
Final plans won’t be ready until the fall of 2027.
