EAA Chapter 1710 recently welcomed Dave Scott of RC Flight School for a presentation on radio-controlled aircraft and the art of learning to fly.

Scott shared his journey into aviation, which began as a young boy with a dream of becoming an aerobatic pilot. Because he was too young to fly a full-scale airplane, he discovered radio-controlled aircraft as a way to pursue his passion for aviation.

“Wisconsin Foodie” host and James Beard Award nominee Luke Zahm spoke to a large gathering Sept. 23 at the Shawano Public Library. Zahm is passionate about quality organic food and talked to attendees about how food connects everyone regardless of any differences.

Katharine Jacob was sworn in Sept. 23 as the new Shawano County supervisor representing District 5.

She will complete the unexpired term of Charles Anderson, who resigned in August due to health concerns.

“I have recently moved up to Shawano as of May,” Jacob said. “I’m personally interested in local politics.”

Jacob has a master’s degree in literature. She previously worked in law firms with contract law and probate law.

Gov. Tony Evers is seeking applicants for the Court of Appeals District III. The appointment will fill a vacancy being created by Presiding Judge Lisa K. Stark’s retirement, effective Dec. 28, 2026. The new judge will complete a term ending July 31, 2029.

It’s a busy time for Lindsay Johnson and business owners in downtown Shawano.

Johnson, Shawano Business Improvement District coordinator, is putting the finishing touches on the Octoberfest and Witches’ Night Out events, set for Oct. 3 and Oct. 9, respectively.

Businesses will celebrate Octoberfest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
