To the editor:
On May 22 I visited Pine Hill Cemetery at Spruce to place flowers at the graves of my husband, parents and grandparents. On May 26, I attended the Memorial Day services provided by the American Legion Lena VFW. The beautiful program includes the reading of the names of all veterans who rest at Pine Hill and nearby cemeteries.
It’s a time when we can stop, think about, and honor and appreciate all the veterans who served in many wars to let us live in a free country. It’s a sad day, but can you imagine the further sadness and hurt I felt when I found that a flower planter that I had placed on May 22 was gone, along with geraniums pulled from the ground?
Were you the same party that stole from us several years ago? Last year my brother had a beautiful planter of geraniums taken. You who stole from our grave site, which includes a veteran, are a petty and despicable thief.
If you are so hard up that you can’t afford to decorate your family grave site, tell me and I’ll buy plants for you. Then you won’t have to steal ours.
Please let the dead rest in peace.
