Barn quilts await spring weather

Thanks to the help of several volunteers this winter, the Barn Quilts of Oconto County project is ready for spring installations once the weather allows. To date, there are 23 blocks scheduled to be completed and installed by fall. Oconto Electric Cooperative will support this effort by donating its equipment. The linemen will donate their time for the installations, scheduled to begin in early April. The barn quilt blocks are painted at New View Industries in Gillett by New View workers and volunteers. Author Suzi Parron will visit the Gillett Library on June 2 to tell about the barn quilts trail movement in the U.S. Her book, “Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement,” was published in 2012, and a second volume has been commissioned. Parron is traveling around the country speaking with quilt guilds and visiting the quilt trails along the way. Individuals interested in the barn quilt project may visit the Barn Quilts of Oconto County website, barnquiltsofocontocounty.weebly.com.
