Ethel “Teddy” Mikkelson, 88, of Gillett, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014.
She was born to the late Albert and Alma (Johnson) Anderson on June 20, 1925. Ethel taught school in Spruce before marrying Dale Mikkelson on Oct. 27, 1951, at Section Eight Baptist Church in Pound. Teddy was a substitute teacher for three area school districts.
The couple farmed in the town of Maple Valley until moving to Brillion in 1964. They retired in 1988, and the couple has lived in the city of Gillett from 1993 until the present time.
Ethel and Dale performed as a family duet for many weddings and funerals over the years. As their two sons developed their musical talents, they formed a Family Gospel String Band. Ethel is a member of Maple Valley Community Church.
Ethel is survived by her husband, Dale, of Gillett; two sons, Rodney (Laine) Mikkelson, of Oshkosh, and Kent (Vickie) Mikkelson, of Clintonville; three sisters, Edith Sellen, of Lena, Delores Sellen, of Oconto Falls, and Norene Micoley, of Oconto Falls; nine grandchildren, Erin (Peter) Franzen, Melissa (Trent) Thomas, Kelly Mikkelson, Ben Mikkelson, Jill Mikkelson, Corey (Stefanie) Mikkelson, Derek Mikkelson, Bryce Mikkelson and Katie Thompson; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Ellen, Irene and Vera.
Visitation will be held at Maple Valley Community Church on Thursday, May 1, from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rick Cooney and Pastor Jim Jensen officiating. Ethel will be interred in Hickory Cemetery.
