Carl W. Brandt, 79, of Eagle River, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Rennes Health and Rehab in Rhinelander. He was born on April 22, 1934, in Mauston to Charles and Kitty Brandt.
Carl married Vivian Janik on Sept. 5, 1953, in Dubuque, Iowa. They resided in Milwaukee, later moving to Oconto Falls, where Carl was employed at Chadwick Manufacturing. He and his family moved to Eagle River, where Carl was plant manager for Four Seasons Homes of Phelps. He then joined Norco Windows, later to become JELD-WEN Windows, until the time of his retirement.
As a younger man, Carl satisfied his need for speed as a driver in stock car and snowmobile racing, including time as a regional factory team driver for Polaris snowmobiles. Among his interests, Carl enjoyed turkey hunting with his brother, John, fishing, and deer hunting with friends. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, NASCAR and Sprint Car racing.
Carl was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Eagle River and was a Mason and Shriner.
Carl is survived by his two children, Charlie (Mary Jo) Brandt, of Fargo, N.D., and Brenda (Bud) Couey, of Eagle River; two grandchildren, Ashleigh and Cody; a brother, John (Sherry) Brandt, of Mauston; and grandpuppies, Roscoe and Bella.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vivian, in 2002; an infant daughter, Vinette; two sisters, Marion and Mildred; and a brother, Charles.
A memorial service for Carl was held Friday, March 28, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Eagle River with the Rev. William Trosien officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Eagle River Cemetery.
