Two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Waukechon on County Road BE on June 6.
Multiple 911 calls came in at about 1:30 p.m. reporting a crash at the intersection of County Road BE and County Road B.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on County Road BE when an SUV attempted to turn west onto County Road BE from County Road B. It appears the SUV failed to see the oncoming pickup and was struck in the eastbound lane while making the turn, according to a Shawano County Sheriff’s Department press release.
The pickup truck was occupied by a single individual who sustained minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The SUV contained two occupants — the driver, a 69-year-old female, and a 71-year-old male passenger — both from the Bonduel area. Upon arrival, both occupants were found unresponsive. Despite life-saving efforts, they succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Shawano Police Department, Shawano Area Fire Department, Shawano Ambulance, Bonduel EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol, Shawano County Highway Department and the Shawano County Coroner’s Office.
The names of those involved are being withheld pending notification of family. The crash remains under active investigation.
