Wendy Wozniak has been appointed to represent the town of Breed on the Suring School Board.
She will fill the remainder of the term of Melissa Trepanier, a 15-year member who resigned in June.
Wozniak said she looks forward to learning how the school district operates and is eager to take on her new role.
“I always had an interest in being involved in the community, especially the school system,” she said.
In an email to the Times Herald, Superintendent Kelly Casper said the district was fortunate to have two highly qualified candidates to consider for the board vacancy. The other candidate was Lisa School.
“Ms. Wozniak will bring the willingness to listen, the heart to make the right choices for the children of the district and the knowledge to move the district forward,” Casper said.
Wozniak has lived in the district for 31 years. She has served as an emergency medical technician for Gillett Area Ambulance for 18 years and has been involved in religious education at Catholic parishes, primarily Gillett and Suring, for 20 years. She is an active member of St. Michel’s Church, Suring.
A former member of the board of education for the Diocese of Green Bay, Wozniak also served as president of a Green Bay-area organization composed of religious education professionals.
Her two children, now adults, are Suring graduates.
Wozniak is a graduate of Ashwaubenon High School and has taken courses at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in the early childhood field.
The Suring School Board approved the appointment July 16, with a 5-0 vote. School Board member Eugene School abstained.
Wozniak’s term expires in April, but Wozniak said she is open to running for a full, three-year term. She said she ran for School Board many years ago.
“I just hope I’m able to do my community proud,” she said.
