Victoria “Vicky” M. Harter, 63, Oconto Falls, died Thursday morning, Nov. 20, 2014, at St. Clare Memorial Hospital in Oconto Falls.
She was born March 11, 1951, in Iowa. She was raised by John and Gladys (Lueloff) Maslek in Bayfield County, Wisconsin, and graduated from Ondossagon High School with the Class of 1969.
Following high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls where she earned a degree in animal science. She later attended UW-Madison where she received her master’s degree in continuing adult and vocational education, after which she became the second female ag teacher to work in the state of Wisconsin. While attending college, she met her husband, also an ag teacher. They became the first husband and wife ag teachers in the state.
On Dec. 1, 1973, she married Ken Harter in Ino, Wisconsin. Following their marriage the couple lived in Green Bay before moving to Oconto Falls in 1980. Vicky was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Oconto County Fair Board, the Oconto Falls FFA Alumni, Oconto County Farm Bureau, and served as a 4-H leader.
Vicky will be fondly remembered for her dedication and skill as an educator of people from preschool to tech school to adult levels.
She promoted and practiced leadership throughout her adult life, serving on the Wisconsin Association of Fairs board and as president of the state association. Similarly, she was a Wisconsin FFA Alumni Council member and advanced through the executive committee to serve as state FFA Alumni Association president. She was currently serving as Oconto County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Chair and on the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Women’s Committee.
Survivors are her husband, Ken Harter, Oconto Falls; one daughter, Rebecca (Brian) Kruger, Marshfield; two grandsons, Isaac and Eli; her father, John Maslek, Ashland; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and good friends.
Visitation with the urn present was held after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Robert Karuhn officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund will be established for causes which meant so much to Vicky.
