In a March 19 letter, Ken Kroenke posed the question: “Can White people claim they’re not racist?” Lumping people together as racist is incorrect. He continues that “racism is deeply ingrained in our society. I have come to agree that racism is systemic.” Is racism systemic? The question is too broad. Is the free enterprise system racist?

To the editor: God is not governed by mankind’s propositions. Therefore what men and women think about the mind of God has no place in secular politics. To believe that we know what God thinks is the height of hubris, the pinnacle of pride. There are many in this community and in this nation that irrationally superimpose their feelings on abortion upon their feelings on politics.

To the editor: Much has changed in policing since 1962 when President John F. Kennedy set aside May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as a time to recognize America’s peacekeepers, but the dedication and self-sacrificing nature of the men and women who commit themselves to the profession has been ever present.

To the editor: After decades of disinvestment, our roads, bridges and water systems are crumbling. Our electric grid is vulnerable to catastrophic outages. Too many lack affordable, high-speed internet and quality housing.

To the editor: As citizens of the United States, we benefit from many freedoms including freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, the right to vote for officials, etc. We receive many benefits — water, roads, health care, military and police, environmental protection, unemployment, and many others. As citizens we have responsibilities, too. No, not just taxes. We are responsible to protect our world and the people who surround us.

To the editor: The late and venerable John Lewis stated that, for America to attain its goal of full equality and opportunity, people of moral foundation must continue to cause and get into “good trouble.” Now, because of explicit words and actions of leaders such as Ron Johnson and the spineless complicity of leaders such as Mike Gallagher, our state and country is entering a new era of Jim Crow.
