To the editor: Not having gone to our Shawano County Fair for a number of years since the COVID, it was time to return and enjoy all the festivities and participate. It was an outstanding year, the weather was great, and all areas were well attended. Thanks to all the people who make it all happen — visitors, doers and entrants. I appreciated all the many events, animals (especially horses), people, friends you run into, etc.

To the editor: Now that the political conventions are over, it’s time to get serious about how to vote. I hope you will read on so I can help you understand why you should vote for your own interests. I am retired from teaching economics for Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

To the editor: What motivates someone to be pro-life or in favor of easy access to abortion? Most of the pro-life people simply don’t want innocent people to be killed. What motivates pro-abortion people was more of a mystery. Some of them profit financially and some feel they will benefit politically, but most pro-abortion people aren’t affected by either of these issues.

To the editor: “Over the last year, synthetic opioids, primarily fentanyl, were identified in 91% of opioid overdose deaths. Data shows the number of fentanyl overdose deaths in Wisconsin grew by 97 percent from 2019 to 2021. The impact of substance use in Wisconsin is devastating …” (Wisconsin DHS, Sept. 15, 2023) The Aug. 26 edition of the Menominee Nation News had an article about fentanyl.

To the editor: Abuse of the COVID-19 Emergency Order of Wisconsin is happening in the Town of Little Suamico. The town is still claiming an emergency order, and citizens do not have full access to their town office now since April 2020. Over 1½ years later, and the town still feels the emergency order should be in effect when everything else is open.

To the editor: This past year, students and their families, schools and educators had to sacrifice so much. The one-time $2.3 billion in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan was meant to help public schools recover. However, the funding was not meant to relieve the state of its responsibility.
