Farmers market opens June 19 for season

The FRESH Project-Shawano Farmers Market will open for the summer 2021 season on June 19. The open-air market, in its 14th year, will be open Saturdays 8 a.m. until noon, through Oct. 2 in Franklin Park, 235 S. Washington St., Shawano. “We are so excited to have a full market this season!” said Barb Mendoza, The FRESH Project executive director. “Shoppers will enjoy the products provided by our farmers, food vendors, and crafters.
LDS family history center to reopen
The Shawano Family History Center is reopening its doors to the public June 7. The center is located at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 910 E. Zingler Ave., Shawano. Time slots available for use are 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., 1:30-4 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Club Notes: Shawano Area Writers
The Shawano Area Writers met May 20 in the Udder Room at Farm Inn. There were 11 members in attendance — Dennis Vickers, Irma Timmons-Arndt, John Mutter Jr., Manuel Moraleda, Twilla Beyer, Wendy Goerl, Lee Pulaski, Tom Thorstenson, Trudy Bosman, Terry Misfeldt and Barb King. Trilby Beauprey McIntosh will be greatly missed by the group.
Auditions open for ‘Seussical the Musical’
Phoenix Players, Inc. will be holding open auditions for “Seussical The Musical” from 6-8 p.m. May 28 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 29 at Christ Congregational Church, 70 S. Main St., Clintonville. Anyone age 13 and older is welcome to audition. Auditioners should prepare an upbeat song from a musical to sing, but not a song from “Seussical.” Accompaniment music can be brought on a CD or other device.
Shawano Pathways conducting bike ride in Wescott
Shawano Pathways has scheduled its first bike ride for the 2021 season. The Wescott Bike Ride will take place at 10 a.m. May 22 at Mielke Arts Center, N5649 Airport Road. Riders can choose from three scenic routes ranging from 7 to 19 miles. Free ice cream will be provided at the park. Maps, a sag wagon, bathrooms, water and off-road parking will be available. Participants should wear a helmet and bright clothing.
Library holding book sale in June
The annual Shawano County Library book sale is taking place June 7-9. A sneak peek will take place from 4-8 p.m. June 7. For $2 admission, patrons will get first dibs on everything the library has to offer, including bestsellers, hardcovers, and a variety of media items. The sale continues from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8-9.
Shawano plans Arbor Day event
The city of Shawano will honor award recipients who are making the community a little greener for Arbor Day at 10 a.m.
