Stevens Point Invite
Shawano’s girls won three duals and lost one as it placed ninth at the Stevens Point Invitational.
The Hawks opened the event with a 44-18 loss to Neenah. They then defeated Holmen Silver 48-10 and Pulaski 36-30. Shawano tied Bonduel 30-30 in the final dual, but because Bonduel forfeited two matches and Shawano only gave up one, the Hawks were declared the winner.
Against Neenah, the girls wrestled hard but just came up short in too many matches. Adalyn Barkley, Lily Tomas and Gwyn Hermann all earned six points for the team during that match.
Getting wins in the dual against Holmen Silver were Maddie Miller, Lauren Seehafer, Vivian Waldburger, Barkley, Jacey Cowden, Tomas, Hermann and Jenna Moede.
Against Pulaski, which had beaten Shawano earlier in the season, Brynn Hannes won a big match for Shawano at 138 by earning a fall in 5:52. Barkley earned a pin in 4:00 minutes over Taylor Gunville. Tomas, Jozlyn Brocker, Maddie Moesch and Miller all earned forfeits.
In the dual against Bonduel, Waldburger earned a forfeit, Barkley earned a pin in 2:29, and Moede earned a pin at 114 in 1:10. At 120, Brocker pinned Ava Reinke in 24 seconds, and Miller earned a forfeit at 126.
“Adalyn Barkley continues to wrestle very well and led our team with four wins,” coach Mike Homan said. “She was a leader and set the tone for our matches. All of the girls wrestled well and did everything they could to win as a team. We had to bump some wrestlers up, and it worked well to earn some team wins.”
