Oconto Electric Cooperative employees raised $10,000 for three local schools. Co-op representatives in January presented $5,000 to Lena High School and $2,500 each to Gillett and Coleman high schools, to be used for the schools’ tech ed departments.
Since 2004, OEC employees have chosen a charity to support each year.
For the 2014 award, local schools could apply for funding for their tech ed departments. On the applications, they supplied a list of tech ed classes, the number of students who participated in at least one tech ed class and an explanation of how they would use the funds to improve their departments.
OEC employees raise money at events like the annual employee golf outing and a bake sale and raffle held at the OEC Member Appreciation Picnic in August. CoBank, a co-op lender, donated $5,000 to match the employee efforts.
