Hawks golfers take sixth at conference min-meet

Shawano golfers scored a 177 and placed sixth among seven teams at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne.

Scoring for the Hawks were Duane Gristeau-Blanche with 42, T.J. Smith with 43, Collin Dieck with 44 and Levi Anobong with 48.

Pulaski boys lacrosse team remains winless

Pulaski remained winless at 0-10 in the Bay Valley Conference and 0-15 overall with a 14-0 shutout loss to De Pere.

Bears defeat Chargers in eight innings

Bonduel 5, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 4

Tied at 3-3 going into the eighth inning, Wittenberg-Birnamwood scored a run in the top of the inning to take the lead, but Bonduel scored twice in the bottom of the inning to win 5-4.

For the Bears, Haley Conradt had four hits, and Emery Thompson had two.

Megan Fischer and Jayda Moenke had two hits for the Chargers.

Eagles explode for 18 runs

Menominee Nation 18, Manawa 6

CJ Payawasay hit a triple and two doubles, had three RBIs and scored three times in the Eagles 18-6 winnower the Wolves.

Craig Penass hit 4-f0r-6 with a double and two RBIs. Caleb Grignon was 3-for-5 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. August Nahwahquaw hit 3-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Comets shut out Hawks on soccer field

The Comets scored once in the first half and twice after the break as Waupaca shut out Shawano 3-0.

Jerry Fischer

Jerry “Baby Edgar” Fischer, 67, of Oconto Falls, passed away unexpectedly May 11, 2026. He was born July 18, 1958, to Edgar and Dolores (Gipp) Fischer.

James Craig

James “Hugger” Dell Craig, 79, of Wittenberg, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Autumn Lane in Birnamwood under the care of LeRoyer Hospice.

Jim was born Oct. 19, 1946, in New London, to Edward and Irene Orpha (Button) Craig. He was the third of five children: Joan Dumbleton, Jock Craig, Janice Jones and Jill Brown. His early years were spent in Royalton, where he, Jan and Jill spent countless hours enjoying the local river.

Board re-votes on teacher non-renewals

The Shawano School Board re-voted in open session on a trio of teacher non-renewal notices May 11 after it had voted on them behind closed doors two weeks earlier.

Geoff Lacy, the school district’s attorney with Renning, Lewis and Lacy, said he would take the blame for not recommending the board return to open session to vote on the non-renewals April 27 when giving members legal advice.

Shawano Memorial Day parade, ceremony announced

Members of the Shawano Allied Vets Council will hold a parade and program on Memorial Day.

The parade will step off at 9:15 a.m. from Huckleberry Harbor and march along Fifth Street to Woodlawn Cemetery.

The program will begin at 10 a.m. at the cemetery.

Dennis Bohm will be the master of ceremonies, and the Rev. Andrew Zobel, senior pastor at St. James Lutheran Church, will offer the invocation.

Oconto County GOP plans golf outing

The Republican Party of Oconto County will hold its third annual golf scramble and fundraiser June 15 at McCauslin Brook Golf and Country Club, 17067 Club House Lane, Lakewood.

All are invited to participate in the day of golf or just the dinner.

Four-person teams with 18 holes of golf, cart and dinner are $125 per golfer. Dinner without golf is $40 per person.

The meal includes chicken and beef tips.
