Zoning committee doesn't want fewer meetings

Shawano County Planning Director Tim Reed will have to look somewhere besides committee meetings to cut costs. The Planning, Zoning and Development Committee informed Reed on Wednesday that his proposal to reduce its meetings from 18 per year to 13 was not an acceptable way to balance his budget.
Shawano schools launch ACT challenge
The Shawano School District is offering its high school students a carrot to prepare for the ACT exam. The ACT is a standardized national test intended to measure students’ college readiness in English, math, science and reading. The district is implementing an ACT challenge where students are encouraged to go online and answer a sample ACT question each day.
Three DPW finalists touring city
Three finalists for the job of public works director were expected to be in Shawano on Friday, meeting with officials and staff and taking a tour of the city. The Common Council was scheduled to convene in closed session at 8:30 a.m.

Caroline H. Rohde, 85, of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, 2013, at the Shawano Medical Center. Caroline was born on Oct. 16, 1927, in the town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County, a daughter of the late Werner and Augusta (Schutt) Braun. Caroline attended the Shawano schools, and following school she was employed as a clerk at the Woolworth store in Shawano. On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harvey M.
Altibel A. A. Reinke
Altibel Adeline Anna “Bonnie” Stern Reinke, 94, of Shawano, formerly of Bonduel, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at a local nursing home. Born on Oct. 25, 1918, in Oconto County, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Seraphine (Ratz) Eggert. In 1936 she was united in marriage to Charles Stern. Altibel enjoyed being a housewife and took pride in raising her children.
Bonduel's Mews second at Iola meet
The Bonduel High School boys cross-country team finished fifth and the girls finished eighth Tuesday at the Iola-Scandinavia Invitational at Iola Winter Sports Park. The boys were led by Isaac Palmer, who finished eighth with a time of 18 minutes, 14 seconds. Sam Falck was right behind in ninth place with a time of 18:32. Freedom won the boys meet. In the girls meet, Mallory Mews finished second with a time of 16:25.

OWI-injury Felony drunken driving charges were filed Tuesday against a Mattoon man in connection with a two-vehicle accident in July that injured four people. Octaviano Enriquez-Genis, 30, is accused of being intoxicated when he rear-ended another vehicle on County Road D in the town of Almon on July 6. County eyes utility infrastructure policy
Shawano County officials will be working on a policy regulating utility infrastructure located near town, county and state roads.
