Caroline H. Rohde, 85, of Shawano, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, Sept. 3, 2013, at the Shawano Medical Center.
Caroline was born on Oct. 16, 1927, in the town of Belle Plaine, Shawano County, a daughter of the late Werner and Augusta (Schutt) Braun.
Caroline attended the Shawano schools, and following school she was employed as a clerk at the Woolworth store in Shawano. On June 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Harvey M. Rohde at the parsonage of St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Following their marriage the couple made Shawano their lifelong home.
Caroline had been employed at several Shawano grocery stores, including the IGA, the Red Owl and the Country Store. She worked in the meat department at all three stores as a meat wrapper. Caroline retired in 1985, and she, along with Harvey, took up the game of golf; a game that both enjoyed and, for the most part, played every day. Harvey Rohde passed away on Aug. 26, 1996.
Caroline was a good and faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Stephens Ministry as well as the Ladies Aid Society. Caroline enjoyed gardening and reading, but spending time with her family is what she enjoyed the most.
Caroline is survived by her loving sons, Wayne (Sharon) Rohde, of Green Bay, and Eugene (Mary) Rohde, of Howard. She has four grandchildren, Jeremy (Sara) Rohde, of Appleton, Macy (Gary) Roberts, of Howard, Jennifer (Al) Keis, of North Branch, Minn., and Stephanie (Eric) Ashley, of De Pere; and eight great-grandchildren, Destin, Julia, Grace, Rayne, Christian, Connor, Spencer and Emily. She is further survived by two sisters, Elaine (Earl) Thompson, of Shawano, and Lucille (Elmo) Wolf, also of Shawano. Many nieces and nephews survive her.
Caroline was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Benjamin, in 1971, one brother and four sisters.
Funeral services for Caroline H. Rohde will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St James Lutheran Church of Shawano. Pastor Ted Andrada will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
