A criminal conduct investigation involving the Gillett Police Department is scheduled to be completed this week. A Green Bay detective is completing his investigation into a report implicating Police Chief Jess Keplinger in an October domestic incident involving an ex-girlfriend.

For people who travel the path around the Falls, it’s interesting to see how connections come together to make sense of what is reported in the news. Last week Gov. Walker released his budget for the next two years, and details have been trickling out ever since. Prior to the budget being released, little hints came out to whet the appetite of those who were following the action.

There are many “remember when” kinds of videos on the Internet, and people send me lots of them. I recently got one from a former colleague that made me think about the beginning of my teaching career back in the ’60s. “The good old days!” Young teachers didn’t make much money in the early ’60s; we technically qualified for food stamps, although I didn’t know anyone who actually took them. Junior Rebecca Berkovitz of Oconto Falls High School has been selected as a Badger Girl by the American Auxiliary Unit 302. Berkovitz has been on the golf team for three years and is the manager of the girls basketball and softball teams.

Gillett Secondary School’s boys basketball team could not overcome an early 15-0 deficit Saturday against Oconto Falls. Junior Tyler Hagemeier spearheaded the Panthers’ attack, scoring nine of his 16 points in the early going, as Oconto Falls posted a 50-37 nonconference win in Gillett. Hagemeier has scored in double-figures in three of the last four games, including a career-high 26 points in Oconto Falls’ first Bay Conference win at New London.
