As I go about our work on the farm, I talk to the animals. Many times, hearing our voice soothes them and also gets them to where we want them to go, keeping everybody on the same page. Once in a while we have to holler at them because let’s face it, animals can be awfully stubborn and try our patience.

A free computer help class is available every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon at Glas Coffeehouse in Shawano. “Anybody who comes in, we fix their computer for free,” said Bruce Starszak, one of the four men offering the service. “We have repaired over 2,100 free of charge.” Nine years ago, he saw an ad offering to help people with their computers.

Tim Paiser is a member of the Gresham Lions Club, which will sponsor the sixth annual Gresham Lions Club Trail Ride on Memorial Day weekend. Paiser was born and raised in Gresham, graduating from Gresham High School. He worked in the mill in Gresham for 10 years before buying a farm in the town of Richmond, beginning with five cows and now milking 450.

Clintonville School District Superintendent Tom O’Toole responded to critics at a Clintonville School Board meeting this week, saying area residents should be more appreciative of the school district’s administrators and teachers. Media reports and social media chatter about staff being unwilling to help with an after-school program, the resignation of a popular social studies teacher and other district issues prompted O’Toole to defend the staff

BASEBALL Shawano 7 Seymour 5 Chase Henning had two hits including a two-run home run in Tuesday’s win at Seymour. Grant Wainio pitched two innings to get the win, allowing one hit and striking out one. The win improved Shawano’s record to 10-7 overall and 7-5 in the Bay Conference. Reed Blake was the losing pitcher for Seymour (6-7, 4-6 Bay).

Bowler School District The Bowler Elementary School music department will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the school. The concert will feature performances by the jazz ensemble, high school band and choir, grades six-eight intermediate band and choir, and fifth-grade beginning band. A variety of music will be presented. On May 2, Bowler High School music students performed at the State Music Festival in Stevens Point.

Shawano Police Department May 11 Police logged 26 incidents, including the following: Vandalism — A vehicle was reported vandalized at Randall and Union streets. Juvenile — Police responded to a juvenile problem at Shawano Community Middle School, 1050 S.

Former Shawano radio broadcaster Norm Habeck has been selected to receive the first Wisconsin Broadcasters Local Broadcast Legend Award. Habeck worked at WTCH, WOWN, WOTE and WJMQ radio for nearly 60 years as a sales representative but is best known as the original host of the WTCH Breakfast Club.
