Clintonville council rejects ‘majority rules’ proposal

With two members absent, the Clintonville Common Council on July 14 failed to pass a motion intended to ensure it could enact decisions without a full council. City ordinance requires a majority vote of the 10-member council to pass a measure. Alderman Steve Kettenhoven proposed changing the ordinance to a majority vote of the council members present. Kettenhoven’s motion failed on a 4-4 vote.
Growing Shawano church looks to expand
Ten years of growth is prompting Hope Community Church to pursue an expansion that would more than double the church’s footprint and possibly make it one of Shawano’s largest houses of worship. Menominee Indian Tribe members will soon have a chance to weigh in on whether marijuana should be legal for recreational and medicinal use on their reservation in northeastern Wisconsin. The tribe plans to hold a referendum vote on Aug. 19-20 to find out how its members feel about legalizing the drug.

A lot to look forward to at arts and crafts fair
The 47th annual Shawano County Arts and Crafts Fair at Mielke Park on Sunday will have some new additions as well as the always popular vendors from previous years. Shelter to mark 10th anniversary
The Oconto Area Humane Society will celebrate its 10th anniversary with an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. The shelter has devoted 10 years to reuniting lost pets with their families and finding homes for stray and abandoned animals in the area. The open house will feature an inflatable bouncer, face painting, vendors, a bake sale and lots of warm, fuzzy friends.
