Oconto County has secured a $175,000 grant to reorient the Machickanee Shooting Range in Morgan and incorporate other safety measures that will eventually lead to the reopening of the popular facility. Federal wildlife restoration funding will be used to renovate the shooting range at 3490 Garrity Road in Morgan, with work planned for spring and summer of 2016.

The westbound lane of traffic was scheduled for paving on Wednesday. “It will start coming together. It will start looking like something,” Duke Peters, project manager for Peters Concrete Company, told a handful of city employees at a Highway 22 informational meeting Friday at City Hall.

The Gillett School District will dig into its fund balance this year to make ends meet, and if revenue streams continue to decline, a referendum may be on the horizon. At the Sept. 16 annual meeting, about 30 people heard about the financial shortfalls in the district, which District Superintendent Todd Carlson accredited to revenue limits set in the state budget signed by Gov.

Lyle E. Wolff, “The Big Bad Wolf,” 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday night, Sept. 8, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Lyle was born June 2, 1923, to Eddie and Gertrude Wolff, of Black Creek. As a young boy he moved to Appleton, graduating with the Class of 1941. He then entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served in World War II.

I saw an ad online for a T-shirt imprinted with this proclamation: “Life without golf is crap.” Regular readers of this column over the last couple of years know that I have been a golf nut for some time now.
