The tradition of community journalism, dating back to 1898, will continue in a new location for the Oconto County Times Herald, which moved into a new office last week.
The Times Herald and The Bonus moved from 323 W. Highland Drive to the McClure and Associates Insurance building, 420 N. Chestnut Ave., Suite C, Oconto Falls. A Chinese restaurant will move into the Highland Drive site between Radio Shack and Corki’s Cup of Joy.
The office of McClure and Associates Insurance Agency has been sectioned into two parts, with the Times Herald office closest to the building’s main entrance. Jim McClure, owner of McClure and Associates Insurance, said he saw a need to help a local business and realized he had room to spare because he no longer needed space to store insurance files.
“With technology, we don’t need the room anymore,” he said.
“We’re grateful Jim was willing to remodel the office to make room for us,” said Tim Murphy, Wolf River Media advertising executive. “We’re getting settled in, and we’re ready to help our customers at our new home.”
The Times Herald and The Bonus office is one of three businesses operating in the building. The chiropractic office of Dr. Joshua Dietze, owner of The Center for Comprehensive Chiropractic Care, opened in spring 2014.
“It’s worked out real well with Josh here,” McClure said. “He’s a good complement to the building. When people work together, it works out great.”
In the coming weeks, the Times Herald plans to erect a sign outdoors and add a drop box for after-hours submissions. The hours of the Times Herald and The Bonus will remain the same: 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday through Friday.
The origins of the Oconto County Times Herald date back to 1898, when the first Oconto Falls Herald was published. The Shellman family acquired the Herald in 1929 and merged it with the Gillett Times in 1952. Shellman Publishing launched The Bonus, a shopper publication, in 1980.
Wolf River Media LLC purchased Shellman Publishing in 2008, and in 2009, moved the business from the Shellman building on Main Street in Oconto Falls to Highland Drive. The move to Chestnut Avenue was completed Sept. 16.
