Cherry Shauger and Vicki Kielpinski recently donated a second series of their children’s books to the Marion and Clintonville public libraries. It’s a series of nature books for children, and they are intended to be read aloud.

Derrick Anthony “Jammer” Perez Sr., 55, of Keshena, died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015. Derrick was born on April 15, 1960, to Robert and Anita (Weso) Perez in Keshena. On April 17, 1982, he was united in marriage to Lynnell King in Shawano. Derrick enjoyed being in the woods, cutting firewood, trapping, bear hunting, deer hunting and spending time with friends at “the shack” during hunting seasons. He owned and operated WJAM Music.

David Carl Zeeman Sr., 70, of Shawano, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015. David was born on Nov. 15, 1944, to the late Carl and Lorraine (Malliet) Zeeman in New London. David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving during the Vietnam War. On June 21, 1969, he was united in marriage to Merry Conklin at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano.

A 34-year-old Keshena man was picked up for drunken driving twice within 24 hours last week, according to authorities. The man’s first arrest was about 11:30 p.m.

Defending state champion Delaney Greene-Gretzinger finished fourth Saturday in the WIAA Division 3 state cross-country meet in Wisconsin Rapids. The Marion High School junior finished in 19 minutes, 17 seconds, just 17 seconds behind the winner, Amherst’s Alissa Niggemann. Shawano Community High School recognized athletes in the nine fall sports Monday at The Gathering in Shawano.

The two schools in the tiny Tigerton School District will not have to close their doors anytime soon after a referendum passed Tuesday by a vote of 484-169, an almost 3-to-1 margin. The district asked voters for permission to override the state-imposed revenue cap so it could collect $1.5 million to $1.6 million in local taxes over the next five years.
