Seniors carry Bears past Gillett

Seniors and multi-year starters Trevor Pedersen and Peyton Czarapata were able to showcase their leadership skills Monday in the opening game of the Bonduel High School boys basketball season. Demand for farm loans surges
The nation’s net farm income is the lowest since 2002, and with another year of low commodity prices, demand for agriculture loans is surging as farmers struggle to make ends meet. Today’s grain prices will bring in enough to pay for basic operating costs like fertilizer, seed and land rent, said Troy Soukup, the past president of Kansas Bankers Association’s Ag Bankers Division.

Sheriff’s department chief deputy retiring
The highest-ranking nonelected official in the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department will retire next month after nearly 28 years with the department. Chief Deputy John Gutho began working with the sheriff’s office in March 1988 as a jailer, then moved up through dispatch, patrol and the captain’s position before becoming chief deputy eight years ago. Fairgrounds lease may include funding
The operators of the Shawano County Fair could soon have a new long-term lease on the county-owned fairgrounds property. The proposed 10-year lease with the Shawano County Agricultural Society also calls for the county to pledge $35,000 a year in funding for repairs and maintenance on the fairgrounds. Members of the county board are being asked to approve the new lease to replace one that expires Dec.

Lena welcomes holidays

Patricia C. Van Hulle
Patricia C. Van Hulle, a longtime resident of the Oconto area, died peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Woodlands of Oconto. Patricia was born on Dec. 4, 1927, in Two Rivers, to Louis and Helen (Glandt) Pahl. Patricia graduated from Riverside High School in Milwaukee in 1945. Her family moved to Oconto the day after she graduated. Patricia married George Van Hulle on April 19, 1947, in Oconto at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Everett Willman
Everett Monford Willman, 85, of Oconto Falls, passed away at Sharpe Care Nursing Home on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015. He was diagnosed in December 2013 with pancreatic cancer and chose to live out his life the best he could. He was born March 9, 1930, in Tinley Park, Illinois, to Alfreda (Schultes) Willman and John Frederick Willman. Everett graduated from Thornton High School, Harvey, Illinois, in 1949. He married Jeanne Reynolds on March 21, 1951.

Lillian Hoyt
Lillian Hoyt, 87, Oconto Falls, died Saturday morning, Nov. 28, 2015, at home. She was born March 4, 1928, in Oconto County to John and Hilda (Tank) Pashek. On Aug. 10, 1946, Lillian married Isaac “Bud” Hoyt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coleman. The couple farmed in the town of Maple Valley for four years before moving to Milwaukee in 1950. Lillian was employed by the Allis Chalmers Co.
