Students accused of tampering with teacher’s drink charged

Two Gillett students face felony charges after reportedly spraying a cleaning solution used to clean whiteboards in the soda bottle of their instructor. Gavin Gilbertson and Hailey Brock, both 17, have been charged with being party to the crime of placing foreign objects in edibles and second-degree recklessly endangering safety for putting a couple of squirts of Expo cleaner in the drink of their instructor, Ray Johnson. New locator signs add safety to trails
“Let it snow” was the sentiment of the snowmobile club members spending their day checking the trails and putting up signs Saturday in the Gillett area. Members of the Sno-Riders snowmobile and ATV club perform trail maintenance at least four times a year. The weekend work included attaching locator signs to trail posts.

Poor shooting slows Tigers early
It’s a game the Gillett High School girls basketball team will want to forget. However, at the same time it’s a game the players can learn from. The Tigers struggled shooting from the field all night, but were fortunate to force overtime.

John Lyle Berton (1947-2015) John Berton lost his four-plus-year, lonely but courageous battle with multiple myeloma between Nov. 27-28, 2015. Born in Shawano on Dec. 23, 1947, he passed away roughly one month before his 68th birthday. John’s professional career spanned the cities of Milwaukee, Salt Lake City, Venice, California, and Ashland, Oregon. John was a visionary artist.

Lacy has chance to reclaim starting role
Eddie Lacy has a chance to regain the starting running back job in Green Bay after running into disfavor last week with coach Mike McCarthy. “Everything Eddie wants to accomplish is right there in front of him,” McCarthy said before practice on Tuesday. Lacy didn’t play much in the 27-23 win on Thursday night over Detroit.

Helen M. Schroeder
Helen Marie Schroeder, 86, of Shawano, died on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2015. She was born on Sept. 14, 1929, in Oshkosh to the late Albert M. and Irene (Kranzusch) Postl. Helen was united in marriage to Doug Schroeder on Oct. 14, 1948, in Oshkosh. Doug preceded her in death on June 27, 2009. She owned and operated a shoe store, called Footport later renamed Shoe Park, along with her good friend, Ramona McBride.
