The Gillett School District will look to its taxpayers to provide $3.8 million over four years to maintain programs in the district. The School Board on Jan. 13 approved an April 5 referendum asking voters for an extra $950,000 each year, for the next four years.

A woman accused of driving 3 miles while dragging a dog attached to her vehicle’s back door has been charged with mistreatment of animals. The medium-sized, white dog was bloody and unresponsive when the sheriff’s department stopped the vehicle of Jordan Mcdonald on Jan. 10 at the intersection of Military Road and state Highway 22 in Stiles.

Bellin Health is looking to expand its health care offerings by opening a clinic in Gillett High School. The clinic would provide care for the community and school staff. “They’re looking at different areas in the school,” District Superintendent Todd Carlson told the School Board on Jan. 13. He recommended the board form a committee to work with Bellin on the endeavor. “But you’ll have to work quickly,” Carlson said.

A $1.3 million renovation project is proposed for Memorial Field in Oconto Falls to repurpose the park formerly used for middle and high school football games and track meets.

Sixteen Oconto Falls High School choir students participated in the 2015 Wisconsin Choral Directors Singing in Wisconsin Festival at Chilton High School. The festival includes four choirs — youth choir, men’s choir, women’s choir and mixed choir — for students in grades five-12. The state festival is held at four sites: West Milwaukee, Chippewa Falls, Wausau and Chilton. Singers perform the same songs at each site.

Tami McQuillan jokes that her tombstone will read “Take responsibility for your actions.” It’s just one lesson she conveys to the middle school students in Gillett as she teaches English/language arts, math, social studies and science.

Despite the cold temperatures, the atmosphere inside the Oconto Falls High School Commons was warm and welcoming Jan. 13 as more than 40 area veterans were honored. Eighteen students from the Oconto Falls High School Conflicts and Crises in History class shared their research projects with area veterans by hosting a reception after school.

Once Oconto Falls High School senior guard Bailey Wolf hit a 3 with 16:10 remaining in the second half to cut the lead to 1, the Clintonville girls basketball team used a 14-0 run to pull away. The Panthers responded with 5 straight points, but it wasn’t enough, as the Truckers ran away with a 51-27 victory Monday night in Clintonville. Clintonville was able to space out the Panthers and attack the paint off the dribble, leading to layups and a 1
