Perfect season continues for Ice Bears

It was another win and another shutout for the Bay Area Ice Bears girls hockey team when they defeated the Fox Cities Stars 4-0.

The Ice Bears are now 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the Eastern Shores Conference. The Stars are 6-4 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Betty Jones

Betty Irene Jones, 90, of Gillett, passed away peacefully into Jesus’ arms on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at St. Clare Memorial Hospital with family by her side. Betty was born Nov. 20, 1935, to the late Fred and Ethel Suchalla in Marinette.

Gloria M. Pagel

Gloria M. Pagel, 95, Oconto Falls, died peacefully Saturday evening, Jan. 3, 2026, at St. Clare Hospital. She was born May 26, 1930, in Goodman to William and Pearl (Schultz) Osweiler.

‘Birds of the Great Lakes’ author to visit Shawano library

Dexter Patterson, author of “Birds of the Great Lakes.” will be part of a Saturday afternoon discussion and meet-and-greet event at the Shawano County Public Library.

He will talk about his birding adventures at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 as part of the 2026 Community Read program.

Community Read officially kicked off Jan. 12 with an unveiling of the books on the library’s Facebook page.

Hit and run to a garage

A Chevy Blazer appeared to have escaped damage after a car drove into the side of the garage at 1220 Engel Drive, Shawano, the night of Dec. 29 or the morning of Dec. 30. The driver of the offending vehicle left the scene without notifying anyone.

• Robert W. Carey, 53, Marion, was charged Dec. 29 with battery to public officers, two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, and misdemeanor charges of possession of THC and resisting or obstructing an officer. Judge Katherine Sloma set a $2,500 signature bond and scheduled a preliminary hearing for Jan. 13.
