Hilda Marie Dennison, 81, of Eau Claire, died peacefully at home on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024. She was born to Carl and Evelyn Turnquist on Oct. 18, 1942, in Greenwood. Hilda graduated from Greenwood High School. She completed the Weaver Airline Personnel School’s extension course and was attending the resident school in Kansas City, Missouri, when she was selected and assigned to the position of communications agent for North Central Airlines.

Helen Therese Gysling, 91, of Gillett, formerly of Minnetonka, Minnesota, died at home with family by her side, Saturday evening, Aug. 24, 2024, and went to be with her Savior. She was born May 20, 1933, in Bern, Switzerland, to Charles and Marie (Nyffeler) Favez. She grew up in Switzerland, where she completed her schooling and began her engagement to Walter Gysling.

A sample of producers around the country will receive agricultural survey questionnaires from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The agency is taking a comprehensive look into the 2024 production and supply of small grains — including wheat, oats, barley and rye. NASS will contact nearly 2,200 producers across Wisconsin to determine 2024 acreage, yield and production for small grain crops.

Milk production in Wisconsin during July totaled 2.76 billion pounds, down slightly from the previous July according to the latest USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Milk Production report. The average number of milk cows during July, at 1.27 million head, was unchanged from last month but up 1,000 from July 2023.

The Friends of Lakes Country Public Library is hosting a book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 30 and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 31 at the library, 15235 State Highway 32, Lakewood. A large selection of paperback and hardcover fiction and non-fiction books will be on sale for $1 or $2. Bags of books are available for $10 on Friday and $5 on Saturday. A number of DVDs, puzzles, audio books, bookbags and T-shirts are also expected to be on sale.
