A 22-year-old man was found dead early Friday morning of an apparent hit-and-run on County Road M at the state Highway 29 overpass in Shawano. Timothy J. Meade, of Stephenson, Mich., was found in the eastbound lane of traffic on County Road M at 2:30 a.m.

The latest Box in the Wood Theatre Guild production, the Cole Porter musical “Anything Goes,” has signs of deja vu and passing the torch to the next generation. The show, which debuts July 18 at the Mielke Arts Center, is directed by Jake Schertz, a Shawano resident majoring in theater at Carroll University in Waukesha.

Mackenzie Buss, of Shawano, made it to the finals in the 50-meter backstroke Thursday at the USA Swimming National Championships in Indianapolis. The new Shawano Community High School graduate’s time of 29.68 seconds set a personal record, eclipsing her previous best of 30.20.

A black bear was spotted in downtown Clintonville early Thursday and reportedly damaged a storefront before making its way out of town. Clintonville police received two calls about the bear shortly before 3:30 a.m. The initial report was that the bear was spotted on the sidewalk in front of the First State Bank about 20 minutes before police were called. A second caller reported the bear crashed through a glass storefront door at D.

George A. Grill Sr., 95, Birnamwood, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services at North Central Healthcare, Wausau. He was born on March 1, 1918, in the Township of Aniwa, the son of the late Joseph and Regina (Mancosky) Grill. On July 4, 1956, George was united in marriage to Eileen Maguire at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Halder. She preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 1999.

Sally A. Schutt, 65, of Pulaski, passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2013, in Green Bay. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Pulaski. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the church in Pulaski on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.
