Lillian Belongia

Lillian “Lil” Belongia, 91, Lena, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013. She was born on Oct. 27, 1921, to Anna and Elmer Kosnar. Lil graduated from Lena High School in 1939. She married Ernest “Eli” Belongia on Oct. 8, 1942, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Lena. He preceded her in death on March 1, 2006. Lil worked at the U.S. Postal Service in Lena, the Cashway Grocery Store and the bloodmobile.

Hawks 13th at Seymour Invitational
The Shawano Community High School girls golf team opened its season Friday at the 16-team Seymour Invitational at Crystal Springs Golf Course in Seymour. The Hawks finished 13th, with a team score of 465, led by Courtney Baumann’s round of 104. Megan Beck had the second-best day for Shawano, shooting 108.

Hawks talented, deep
With 14 seniors, including three with all-Bay Conference honors, the Shawano Community High School boys soccer team is poised to have a big season. The Hawks, who went 8-9 and finished fourth in the Bay Conference (5-5) last year, are loaded with experience. “I have a lot of talented people,” Shawano coach Bob Croschere said. “The situation this year is that I don’t have enough room for all the players that could be varsity level.

Reflecting on the Fox
I have driven over the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge in Green Bay countless times. I never really enjoyed that journey, because I am afraid of heights, and let’s face it, that bridge is high, so I always looked straight ahead. This past week I didn’t drive over that bridge, rather, I cruised right under it, aboard the Foxy Lady.

Task force takes firsthand look at SMC facility
“Be happy, and a reason will come along.” — Robert Brault On Monday evening, the Shawano Medical Center reuse task force went on a tour of the facility. Drawings of the various heating/cooling systems and the dates of building additions were distributed to the members.

A heartwarming day
Quite by accident we learned that my uncle was gravely ill. We believe it was a God-thing. Sometimes events occur that, to our human minds, are coincidental, when in fact, they had been divinely arranged. My sister was waiting her turn at a dentist appointment and struck up a conversation with a gal she was casually acquainted with. Somehow the chat wound its way around to our uncle and she mentioned he was not well.
