The Bonduel High School football team lost to Cedar Grove-Belgium 50-7 in the WIAA Division 5 Level 2 playoff game Friday night at Rush Niles Memorial Field. The Bears, the No. 5 seed, fell behind early to the top-seeded Rockets, but stayed in the game for most of the first half.

Ali Hanson placed first in the 100-yard butterfly and was named Bay Conference swimmer of the year as the Shawano/Bonduel high school girls swim team took second at the Bay Conference meet Thursday at Shawano Community High School. Shawano/Bonduel scored 400 points with firsts in five of 11 events, but was edged out by Sturgeon Bay (435). Hanson, a junior, swam a 1:00.74 in the 100 butterfly.

Orchestra students at Shawano Community High School will have more than musical talent on display during the 34th annual Golden Strings concert Friday and Saturday. They will also be showing off what they can do when the show’s program, planning and promotion are also put in their hands. After getting an earful from a number of upset community members Thursday, Shawano School Board members backed away from their insistence on finding additional budget cuts and unanimously approved a $12.9 million tax levy they had rejected earlier in the week. The board had voted 4-3 Monday against ratifying the levy after learning the amount approved by district voters in August would translate into a higher than projected tax rate. At August’s
