Many of the fields bordering the path around the Falls sprouted a new look this week as corn stalks sprouted bright yellow tassels to contrast with the dark green below. The signs of the corn plants moving to the next stage of their growth suggest positive things are happening and build anticipation for fresh local sweet corn and a bumper corn crop. Violet O. (Gueths) Kreklow, 88, of Shawano, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, in Shawano. Born and baptized on July 3, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Elsie (Zimdars) Gueths. Violet was confirmed June 11, 1939, at the Stony Hill St. Paul Lutheran Church by Pastor E.H. Berfiend. On Sept. 29, 1962, she was united in marriage to Melvin “Mike” Kreklow at Stony Hill St. Paul Lutheran Church by Pastor Clausen.

Otto C. Kolpack Jr., 85, of Bowler, died on Sunday, July 27, 2014, following a courageous battle with Lewy Body dementia, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg. He was born July 21, 1929, the son of the late Louise (Fuhrman) and Otto C. Kolpack Sr. in Tigerton and grew up in Bowler on the family farm. Otto graduated from Bowler High as valedictorian in 1947 and was known for his love of team sports, especially basketball.

Eugene L. Peterson, 89, of Lunds, passed away early Friday morning, July 25, 2014, at Sheridan Health and Rehabilitation Center in Kenosha.
