County won’t halt Sheriff’s Dept. probe

Shawano County Board Chairman Jerry Erdmann said Thursday there will be no halt called to investigations of the Sheriff’s Department until they have run their course. “When we feel we have investigated thoroughly, it will stop,” he said. CROSS-COUNTRY Hawks’ boys ninth at Seymour The Shawano boys finished ninth overall and third among Division 2 schools Thursday at the Seymour Invitational at Crystal Springs Golf Course. The boys were led by Jake Klister, who finished 12th overall with a time of 16:54.

Hawks beat Menasha in OT
An overtime goal by Shawano Community High School senior Michael Medina lifted the Hawks to a 1-0 win over Menasha on Tuesday in Shawano. The victory secured a fourth-place finish in the Bay Conference for the Hawks. After 98 scoreless minutes, Medina, a forward, managed to get a goal on a scrum in front of the net. “Their goalie made a couple of nice saves, but couldn’t catch the ball,” Shawano coach Bob Croschere said.

Momentum swing helps Shawano sweep Marinette
After cruising through two sets to open Thursday’s match against Marinette, the Shawano Community High School volleyball team found itself in a hole, down 17-10 to the Marines in the third game. That’s when, seemingly, the Hawks decided they were going to win. “They really united as a team tonight,” said coach Jessica Cumberland, who moved up from assistant coach after Jean Wolff recently stepped down for personal reasons.

Yvette Marie Reed
Yvette Marie Reed, 48, of 121 Birch Ave., Gillett, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Shawano Medical Center. Yvette Reed, daughter of Philip and Janice (Heath) Reed, was born March 1, 1966, in Oconto Falls. She graduated from Suring High School in 1966. She attended Carroll College in Waukesha and was employed at an auditor for the Menominee Indian Tribe in Keshena. She married Lonnie Peterman on April 1, 2014.

Mae N. Ankerson
Mae N. Ankerson, 94, of Caroline, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at Evergreen Care Center, Shawano. The former Mae Nila Schmidt was born on May 10, 1920, in Caroline to Benjamin and Alvina (Buss) Schmidt. She graduated from Marion High School in 1938. Mae was united in marriage to Ellsworth “Al” Ankerson on Oct. 19, 1941. The couple lived in Caroline their entire married life, and Al preceded her in death on Feb.

St. James Lutheran School The PK3 students are taking show and tell to a whole new level. IsaBella Kuhn and her parents brought her horse. On Thursday, Collin Olson’s grandpa brought a garbage truck and a plow truck. Wow! What a great experience for our young students. All Shawano schools will recognize National Walk to School Day on Wednesday. The day helps to emphasize health, wellness and physical activity. Let’s get those feet moving!

Clintonville plans to reopen skate park
Plans are in place to reopen the Gordon Noren Skate Park in Clintonville. The park at 55 E. 12th St. was closed more than a year ago after it was decided that it was unsafe due to the condition of the equipment, such as the ramps and railings. Justin McCuly, city park and recreation director, recently told the Common Council that he was able to find some surplus equipment in good shape. The council approved spending $10,028 for the equipment.
