Peshtigo controlled the ball and held the high-scoring Gillett High School football team without a point in the second half en route to a 14-13 win Friday in both teams’ Marinette & Oconto Conference regular season finale. The Machickanee Players will present a ghostly adventure during the Halloween season. “The Woman in Black,” a ghost play adapted by Stephen Mallatratt from the book by Susan Hill, will be presented at the Park Avenue Playhouse, 408 Park Ave., Oconto. Arthur Kipps, a lawyer, rents a theater and hires a professional actor to help him re-enact a ghostly event that happened many years ago—with horrifyingly tragic results.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Concert Band will present its fall concert at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at the Marinette High School auditorium. The concert theme is veteran appreciation, and all veterans get free admission. The band features music for the entire family, including modern jazz, Hollywood musical tunes and classic symphonic pieces. Conductors are Glen Reinke and Bob Berndt. Tickets will be available at the door.

To the editor: If Scott Walker were a Democrat, Republicans would be screaming for his head. He’s a lifelong politician with a record of cronyism and corruption, a slippery but smooth operator always running for a higher office while failing in his current one. To the editor: My wife and I attended the Irish Tenor concert at the Performing Arts Center at Oconto Falls High School, and it certainly was outstanding, although sparsely attended. Kudos to the board for its vision bringing a variety of acts to please a wide audience, which is worthy of a community much larger than Oconto Falls. To the editor: The massive cuts to public K-12 education in Scott Walker’s first budget may have been justified. But following that in his subsequent budget, he proposed zero per-student increase in state aid.

Prior to Sunday, and on the day itself, communication about potential disruptions in safe journeys came in a number of forms for those who traveled about the path around the Falls.

To the editor: More and more states are now allowing gays to marry. More and more people have turned away from the God of our fathers and from his holy word, the Bible, when there are more than 14 passages in the Bible against homosexuality. My God Almighty, what have we done? Years ago, the country passed a law legalizing alcohol, and it says in the Bible that the drunkard will not inherit the kingdom of God.
