Maybe you saw this item in the paper a couple of weeks ago: “Monday, Dec 15, 2014. The father of the modern baseball trading card who designed the famed Topps versions in the 1950s has died. Sy Berger was 91.” An awful lot of guys I knew when I was a kid spent part of their allowances buying packs of Topps bubble gum to get the cards. For a nickel, you got six baseball cards and a stick of rock-hard bubble gum.

Eagles lose to undefeated Bonduel
Bonduel High School senior Jennifer Dowden was too much for Suring as the Eagles lost 70-23 Friday night in a nonconference matchup. Dowden scored 12 of her 21 points in the first half as undefeated Bonduel went ahead 42-10. “We didn’t play with confidence and we did not play the way that we can play,” Suring coach Shaun Wagner said.
Free throws costly for Suring
Missed free throws in the final frame were costly Friday as the Suring High School boys basketball team lost a 53-43 nonconference game to visiting Bonduel. With both teams in the bonus entering the fourth period and Bonduel leading 43-32, the Eagles were a collective 4 for 11 on the free-throw line. All my chicks home
For the most part, I write about what is on my heart at the moment. The only thing I’m thinking about right now is the fact that I’ll have all of my chicks in the roost at one time very soon. I’m giddy with excitement, actually. Silly perhaps, but there it is. Instead of making it home in time for Christmas, our oldest waits until after the holidays so he can grab a cheaper flight from California.
