Even though it’s winter, someone said to me a week or so ago, “We have to make hay while the sun shines.” I don’t know when that expression started to mean doing something when the time and conditions are right.

Oconto Falls High School students will display their work at the eighth annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Symposium from 4-7 p.m. Monday, March 23, in the Oconto Falls High School commons and fieldhouse. More than 320 high school students who are enrolled in STEM classes will participate.

Senior Grant Fischer and two other Gillett/Suring wrestlers were named to the All-Marinette & Oconto Conference first team last week. Fischer placed sixth in the 138-pound weight class at the WIAA Division 4 individual state wrestling tournament in Madison and compiled a 36-11 record. Gillett Secondary School senior Taylor Kohls last week was named to the All-Marinette & Oconto Conference girls basketball first team. Kohls scored in double figures in 15 of the Tigers’ 24 games this season, including a career-high 20 points against Goodman/Pembine in January.

This season begins a new era for the Oconto Falls High School girls track team, which has a new coach and only four seniors among the 28 girls on the roster. Karissa Kaiser, a first-year English teacher at the school, has replaced Tammy Moynihan, who stepped down after 12 years as head coach. “This is my first coaching position and I couldn’t be more excited to begin coaching with the Oconto Falls girls track and field team,” Kaiser said.

Linda Joyce Porter, 67, of Green Bay, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, in Shawano. Linda was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 21, 1947, to George and Joyce (Bird) Koons. She enjoyed the theater, reading, bicycling and loved music. Linda had an adventurous spirit and loved to try new and exciting things.

Marliss-ann Lundquist, 76, of Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Marliss was born to the late Curtis and Hilder (Grundsom) Hosking on Feb. 3, 1939. Marliss Hosking married Ned Lundquist on April 15, 1978, in West Allis.

Richard Przybylski, 84, a lifelong resident of Angelica, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer, while listening to his favorite polka music at the farm on which he was born. His wife and his sons were at his side. Richard was very proud of his Polish heritage and the Pulaski area, and enjoyed Polka Days and Polish food. On Aug. 27, 1955, he married Phyllis Banaszynski at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski.
