Cold, rain, snow or shine — community members across Oconto County are invited to join a new free indoor walking program hosted by Healthy Oconto County in partnership with Oconto County UW-Extension and Oconto County Health and Human Services.

“Walk & Talk” offers residents of all ages and abilities a warm, safe and welcoming place to keep moving all season long.

The Shawano School Board signed off Nov. 17 on additional referendum work to the tune of more than $2.7 million after it was reported that most of the bids for projects approved by voters one year ago came in under budget.

Kayla Brendemuehl will be the next activities director for the Shawano School District, effective Dec. 2.

Brendemuehl is succeeding Joel Wondra, who is retiring.

A Shawano Community High School graduate, Brendemuehl has served the district for eight years as a teacher, coach and associate principal.

Fall is quickly slipping toward those wintry months when many of our colorful birds, like the falling leaves, have flown away. Isn’t it wonderful that the holiday season begins with Thanksgiving? I like the idea of looking around your life and finding things you are thankful for. Now is the perfect time to make a list. You don’t need to share it at the turkey table, but I hope you do. I’ll share mine to get you started.

That’s the message coach Doug McElrone had for the Pulaski girls basketball team Nov. 18 following a season-opening loss to New London.

While the Red Raiders took a 28-19 lead into the locker room at halftime, they were outscored 38-23 over the final 18 minutes and ended up on the short end of a 57-51 final in a nonconference matchup on the Bulldogs’ home court.
