Bonduel, Tigerton move on to sectionals

Bonduel 70, Iola-Scandinavia 65

All five Bonduel starters scored in double digits as the Bears held to defeat Iola-Scandinavia 70-65 and advance to WIAA sectional play.

Bonduel will play against Kewaunee on March 12 at Kaukauna.

Bonduel’s 41-32 halftime lead slipped in the second half, as Iola-Scandinavia outscored the Bears 33-29. But, Bonduel stayed strong at the end to earn the win.

Quinn Wesenberg led the team with 17 points. Ryan Westrich and Carter Moesch each scored 16 points. Griffin Uelmen scored 11, and Jack Zernicke added 10.

Tigerton 71, Newman Catholic 57

Tigerton advanced to 27-0 with a regional championship win over Newman Catholic. Tigerton’s 71-57 win pushed them into sectional play.

The Tigers will play Wabeno/Laona on March 12 in Antigo.

Freedom 95, Oconto Falls 65

With the exception of the start of the game, Oconto Falls trailed Freedom through the regional title game and came up short 95-65.

James Beaman led the Panthers with 38 points, followed by Brady Bursa and J.J. Pytleski with seven each.

Collin Radtke and Bursa each pulled down seven rebounds, and Beaman had three. Radtke, Bursa and Beaman each had one steal.

Bursa and Pytleski each recorded three assists, and Radtke had one.

Oconto Falls ended the season with an 18-8 record.

Notre Dame 60, Pulaski 47

Pulaski’s season ended with a 60-47 loss to Notre Dame in the regional championship game.

The Red Raiders were 11-15 on the season.

Seymour 56, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 35

Wittenberg-Birnamwood suffered through a pair of scoring droughts that led to a 56-35 loss to Seymour for the regional title.

The Chargers went through half of the first half before they finally put points on the board. The last half of the second half was the same as the team was stuck at 35 points.

The Chargers end the season at 19-7.

Friday, March 6

Bonduel 82, Oconto 40

Bonduel improved to 22-3 on the season with a dominating 82-40 win over Oconto in a Division 4 semifinal regional game.

Quinn Wesenberg led the Bears with 33 points, seven rebounds and five assets. Ryan Westrich had 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Jack Zernicke chipped in 10 points.

Bonduel opened up a huge 47-13 lead at the half and cruised to the win.

Tigerton 75, Tri-County 42

Tigerton rolled over Tri-County 75-42 in the Division 5 regional semifinal.

James Brady led the Tigers with 30 points and 14 rebounds.

Sam Anheuser scored 16 points and pulled down seven rebounds while leading the team with eight assists. Izaiah Lederhaus scored 10 points.

Caleb Dahlstrom led Tigerton with five steals.

Tigerton opened up a 42-18 lead at the half.

Oconto Falls 67, Peshtigo 65

James Beaman led the Panthers with 26 points as Oconto Falls held on at the end to defeat Peshtigo 67-65 to advance to the Division 3 regional final.

Oconto Falls held a 36-31 lead at the half, but the Bulldogs stayed tough throughout the second half, making a comeback that came up short at the end.

J.J. Pytleski scored 19 points for the Panthers, and Carson McDermid added 13.

Pytleski led the team with eight rebounds and four steals, while adding one block. Teagan Tate had four rebounds. Beaman pulled down two rebounds, and had one block and a steal.

Brady Bursa dished out five assists, with Pytleski credited with four and McDermid getting three.

Pulaski 73, Sheboygan South 64

The Red Raiders advanced to the Division 2 regional championship game after defeating Sheboygan South 73-64.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood 47, Denmark 38

Zandyr Barke led the Chargers with 27 points as Wittenberg-Birnamwood defeated Denmark 47-38 in the Division 3 regional semifinal game.

Logan Gibson and Milo Salvesen each scored six points.

Oliver Fraaza led with 10 rebounds and contributed one steal. Eddie Nowinsky and Kaden Yaeger each had a pair of steals, with Nowinsky pulling down seven rebounds and Yaeger grabbing four.

Nowinsky led with four assists. Fraaza had three, and Barke had one.

Seymour 77, Menominee Nation 36

The Eagles ended their season at 14-12 following a 77-36 loss to Seymour in the Division 3 regional semifinal game.

Seymour opened up a big lead early and never let up, going into the half with a 36-20 advantage and stretching it from there.

Wabeno/Laona 82, Bowler 29

Bowler was no match for Wabeno/Laona in the Division 5 regional semifinal, losing 82-29.

The Panthers season ended with an 11-13 overall record.
