Neil W. Rasmussen

Neil W. Rasmussen, 85, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, formerly of Cecil, passed away at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee, Illinois, on Nov. 18, 2014. He was born on Sept. 24, 1929, in Sheboygan to Christ W. and Margaret I Paulsen Rasmussen. Neil married Alice Thome; she is deceased. Neil was in the Air Force for four years and the Navy for four years. He worked for Wells Fargo as armed security in Chicago until the time of his retirement and was a dedicated worker who never missed a day of work. After retirement he continued to work until a year before his passing. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Green Valley, and loved to fish and watch the Green Bay Packers. Neil is survived by his daughter, Debbie Hughes, of Bourbonnais, Illinois; stepdaughters, Anne (Ed) McDow, of Dallas, Texas and Fran Dzingeleski, of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; and stepson, William Thome, of Chicago. He was also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren,; a sister-in-law, Mary Rasmussen. of Tempe, Arizona; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, stepson, Joe Thome, and one sister and three brothers. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, from 4-8 p.m. at Zastrow Funeral Home, 414 S. Warrington Ave., Cecil. A celebration of Neil’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, from 10-11 a.m. with an 11 a.m. service at Bethel Lutheran Church, County Road BB and Church Road, Green Valley, with Pastor Bill Gruenstern officiating. There will be military rites held at the cemetery by the Gillett VFW and Gillett Legion Post 300. Burial will be immediately following at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Green Valley.
